## Synopsis

An orphan, Jeannette, has been adopted by the farmer of the Château de Chambleu. She grows up with the son of the owner of the manor, Mme de Bernecourt, before being separated from him when she becomes a lady in waiting. As far as the young man, Jean, is concerned, he comes back from the colonies in the company of a beautiful divorcée, Mme Lauret, whom he wishes to marry.
