Rajit Kapoor born May 22, 1963 in Amritsar, is a distinguished Indian film and theatre actor and director. He gained fame portraying the fictional detective Byomkesh Bakshi in the eponymous television series on Doordarshan in 1993. He won the National Film Award for Best Actor for portraying Mahatma Gandhi in the 1996 film The Making of the Mahatma. His film debut was in Shyam Benegal's Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda (1992).
