Steven Sean Garland was born and raised in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. He moved west with his family in 1979, where he earned a degree in English at University of California, Davis, all the while threatening to declare a Theatre major as he haunted the department's stages in productions ranging from Master Harold...and the boys to American Buffalo to Jacques and His Master. After living and breathing his Freshman 10 out of college in love/hate Los Angeles, he relocated to Florida in 2003, joining AEA and SAG-AFTRA, and actively pursuing an artistic career.
